Fall Events at Paul Bunyan Campground: Labor Day Luau, Our Last Vendor Market & Two Halloween Weekends

Well, if you've camped with us at all this summer, you already know the truth: 2026 has been one of the rainiest, coolest summers we've had at Paul Bunyan Campground in a while. We won't pretend otherwise — there have been more gray mornings and muddy gravel roads than we'd have liked. But that just means we're that much more ready for Labor Day Weekend, and honestly, for fall itself. Northern Michigan in autumn is something special, and we've got a full lineup of fall events near Alpena and Harrisville, MI to close out the season right.

Here's everything coming up: our tropical Labor Day Luau Weekend, our last Local Vendor Market of the 2026 season on September 19th, and two separate Halloween weekends — including our first-ever Octoberfest — in late September and early October.

Labor Day Luau Weekend: Sending Off Summer Island-Style

Rainy summer or not, we're going out with a bang. Join us for a tropical Labor Day Weekend full of fun, family-friendly activities to celebrate the end of summer in style — right here at our Spruce, Michigan campground off US-23.

📅 Dates: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend
All activities are free (except Friday's bingo — bring a candy bar!) and family-friendly. It's $5 a day for local neighbors to join in the activities, and all ages are welcome. Come celebrate with us, make some memories, and send summer off island-style at Paul Bunyan Campground!

Our Last Local Vendor Market of the 2026 Season — September 19th

Mark your calendars: our third and final Local Makers Market of the 2026 season is happening September 19th. Support local artists and small businesses from around the Alpena and Harrisville area with unique, handcrafted, and locally made goods — perfect for gifts, or just to treat yourself.

Interested in being a vendor? We'd love to have you! Email paulbunyancamp@gmail.com to sign up. There's a $5 vendor fee, payable the day of the market — just set up your booth in the pavilion or community area and share your creations with the community.

Two Halloween Weekends: Halloween & Our First-Ever Octoberfest

This year we're doing Halloween twice — because why pick just one weekend of costumes, candy, and campfire fun? We've got a classic Halloween weekend the last weekend of September, followed by our brand-new Octoberfest weekend the first weekend of October, complete with fresh-pressed apple cider. Both weekends are dress-up, family-friendly, and open to campers and the local community alike.

Halloween Weekend — September 25th & 26th

Get ready for a weekend of family-friendly frights, creativity, and campground fun! Dress up, sign up for our chili cook-off, decorate your site, and join us as we celebrate Halloween together. Our site decorating contest winner is announced at 9pm Saturday.

Halloween / Octoberfest Weekend — October 2nd & 3rd

Get ready for a weekend of family-friendly frights, creativity, and freshly pressed apple cider! Same Halloween spirit, plus our first-ever Octoberfest touches. Dress up, sign up for the chili cook-off, decorate your site, and celebrate Halloween and Octoberfest together. The site decorating contest winner is announced at 9pm Saturday.

See You This Fall in Spruce, Michigan

Rainy summer, cooler temps, whatever — we're genuinely excited for what's ahead. Whether you're already booked for Labor Day Weekend camping near Alpena, stopping by our vendor market in Spruce, MI, or joining us for one (or both!) of our Halloween and Octoberfest weekends, we can't wait to see you. And remember — these events aren't just for our campers. Our local Spruce, Alpena, and Harrisville neighbors are always welcome to join the fun for $5 a day.

Bring the costumes, bring the candy bars, bring your best chili recipe, and let's make the most of fall together.
